This is the only chocolate chip cookie recipe you will ever need. These cookies are everything a cookie should be: crisp around the edges, soft and chewy in the middle, and loaded with pockets of melting chocolate. The secret to their incredible flavor is browning the butter before adding it to the dough, which gives the cookies a rich, nutty, and almost toffee-like taste. A generous sprinkle of sea salt on top perfectly balances the sweetness. It’s a classic treat that is pure happiness in every bite.
The chocolate chip cookie was invented in 1938 by American chefs Ruth Graves Wakefield and Sue Brides. Ruth owned the Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Contrary to the popular myth that it was an accident, the creation was actually a deliberate effort to offer something new to her guests. The recipe was first published in her cookbook, "Tried and True Recipes," and its popularity exploded after Nestle began printing the recipe on their chocolate bar wrappers.
